Caroline Flack, the presenter best known for her work on Love Island, The X Factor, and other shows, has been found dead by suicide. She was 40 years old. The TV show mainstay had taken a break from her work after being arrested and subsequently charged with assault last December.
In a statement, Ms. Flack‘s family said:
“We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February. We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.“

Alongside this, a lawyer for Ms. Flack confirmed to Sky News that she had taken her own life before being found in her apartment in East London. Her passing comes several weeks before she was set to stand trial for allegedly attacking her then-boyfriend Lewis Burton. According to some reports, she is alleged to have hit Mr. Burton with a lamp as he slept on December 12.
While Ms. Flack pleaded not guilty to the charge, prosecutors alleged that she had threatened to kill herself while also calling Mr. Burton “vile.” Alongside her break from acting, she had stepped away from her social media accounts, though she had recently returned to using them.

Her most recent post on Instagram was on Valentine’s Day and featured a photo of her dogs alongside heart emojis. While the comments have been turned off, it’s since gained hundreds of thousands of ‘Likes.’
According to some reports, Mr. Burton had attempted to contact Ms. Flack via the social media platform; however, she had been banned from contacting him as trial proceeded. Prior to the Valentine’s Day post, Ms. Flack‘s last upload to social media was just before Christmas, in which she said:
“Been advised not to go on social media…but I wanted to say happy Christmas to everyone who has been so incredibly kind to me this year…I’m taking some time out to get feeling better and learn some lessons from situations I’ve got myself into to. I have nothing but love to give and best wishes for everyone.“
